Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders are on the rise with both children and adolescents. Jodie is trained in both Family Based treatment of Eating Disorders for children and CBT- E for adolescents: Medicare rebates are available up to 40 sessions a year with a GP- Eating Disorder Referral.

Child Psychologist

Jodie employs a dual approach to effectively treat eating disorders, tailoring interventions based on age and developmental stage. Family-Based Treatment (FBT) is a prominent strategy for children, emphasizing family involvement and support. Jodie will guide families in understanding and addressing the eating disorder as a collective unit, redistributing responsibility for meals and fostering a supportive environment for recovery. By empowering parents and equipping them with tools to manage their child's nutritional and emotional needs, FBT promotes weight restoration and disrupts harmful eating behaviours.

For adolescents, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) is a highly effective approach. CBT-E targets distorted thoughts and behaviours related to body image, weight, and food. Jodie works closely with the adolescent to challenge and modify negative beliefs, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and enhance self-esteem. The treatment encourages a shift towards a more flexible and balanced relationship with food, promoting long-term recovery. Additionally, CBT-E addresses comorbid issues like anxiety or depression, providing a comprehensive approach to treating eating disorders in adolescents.

Incorporating these evidence-based treatments, Jodie guides both children and adolescents on a path to recovery from eating disorders. By involving families in the treatment process and tailoring interventions to the unique needs of each age group,  can significantly improve the overall well-being and life quality of individuals struggling with eating disorders.
